Our client, an aerospace engineer, sought treatment for severe neck pain. During his hospitalization, he developed a bloodstream infection and progressive leg weakness. Approximately two weeks after admission, imaging revealed an extensive spinal epidural abscess compressing his spinal cord. Despite surgery and intensive rehabilitation, he sustained a permanent spinal cord injury and can no longer walk independently or return to his career.
On behalf of our client and his wife, we alleged that critical warning signs of a spinal cord emergency were not adequately investigated and that timely neurosurgical intervention was not obtained. The defendants denied negligence, and the case was resolved at mediation.
No settlement can undo a life-changing injury. This case was about advocating for a family facing lifelong care needs, lost earnings, and a profoundly changed future. We are proud of Heather and Ben’s work on their behalf, and we are honored to see that work recognized.
