NEVER, no matter what, talk with law enforcement without FIRST consulting a credible criminal defense lawyer you trust. If you are asked to give a statement, DON’T - they’ve already made up their minds and are looking to build a case on you or someone you love, whether guilty or not guilty. Don’t help them railroad you or your loved ones. IF, after consulting with your lawyer, it is determined that it is in your best interest to speak with law enforcement, that can be arranged. Don’t try to explain yourself to them. They are NOT your friends in this moment. The only things you MUST do during a lawful police interaction is identify yourself and get out of the vehicle (in a traffic stop) if requested to do so. That’s it. Don’t be fooled. Don’t be an idiot.

Breaking: Punxsutawney Phil has been taken into custody by federal agents in Pennsylvania. He is being charged with Conspiracy to Prolong Winter and Season Fraud due to allegedly seeing his shadow today and thereafter retreating back to his lair. This is simply one case we won’t take!

Due to weather conditions and concern for our staff attempting to travel to work, our physical office will be CLOSED tomorrow 1/26/26. We are trying to figure out a way to be able to answer phones, but if you cannot reach us tomorrow, we will be open for business on Tuesday 1/27/26. Also, all courts in Lee, Moore, Chatham and Harnett Counties are closed tomorrow 1/26/26. Thank you all, and stay safe.

We have seen an uptick in folks calling our office to fix big license and insurance problems arising from their failed attempt in representing themselves for a traffic ticket. We have also noticed facebook posts by the North Carolina Judicial Branch advocating for this option when handling traffic tickets. This is bad advice.

It is true that someone could go in and handle their traffic ticket without an attorney; however that is NOT advisable for a few reasons: 1) Lawyers tend to get better deals than the general public due to our knowledge of the law and our relationships with the people we work with every single day; 2) You will probably end up taking 1/2 day off of work to go deal with this at your court date. How much is a 1/2 day missing work worth to you?; and 3) The general public doesn’t understand the consequences of traffic convictions - lawyers do. We will do our best to prevent or minimize drivers license points and insurance points resulting in increased insurance costs.

Whatever you do, NEVER just pay off a ticket. It could cause your license to be revoked and your insurance to skyrocket.

The world lost one of the most special human beings this week, Ron Perkinson. Ron was a partner at our firm for many years, and still would come by from time to time to say hello and shoot the breeze. A very good friend to us all, a “crazy uncle” to others (Chas/Kevin), Ron left his mark on this earth in his own way and on his own time. Hilarious, witty, and one of the most intelligent people to ever grace the halls of the Lee County Courthouse, Ron was one-of-a-kind, and he will truly be missed. Our hearts go out to Edna, Shay, Sterling and Matt, and their families for their loss. We the love Perkinson family, and will always consider them a part of the team. RIP Uncle Ronnie. 💙
