Yesterday, our Staff were invited to a retreat at the home of one of LAM’s allies - Annie O'Connor. Annie is a visionary leader whose work is singularly focused on creating affordable housing. Annie and her dog Nori welcomed us with open arms into their beautiful home and treated us to wildflower mandala making, lunch, and a walk by the ocean. Thank you so much to Annie and Bolinas Community Land Trust for seeing and honoring Legal Aid of Marin’s work and giving us this immeasurable gift of a retreat in beautiful West Marin. We are grateful!

This January, we launched a medical-legal partnership with Ritter Center and began building our new Immigration Legal Services program. Our Employment Law team, meanwhile, helped our clients secure major settlements and prevail in complex cases, advancing workers’ rights across Marin.

EMPLOYMENT LAW SPOTLIGHT✨

“Cin’s Fight Against Age Discrimination”

LAM’s Employment Law Staff Attorney, Adriana Perera, took her case and promptly filed a discrimination claim.

A few months later, and with Ms. Perera’s help, Cin settled her claim for $35,000.
The settlement agreement gave Cin the financial security to leave on her own terms and the freedom to uncover what comes next.

We had a great time yesterday at Canal Pickleweed Park, hosting a pop-up outreach event alongside students from Dominican University.

It was a meaningful afternoon connecting with community members, sharing information about LAM's legal services, and helping people better understand their rights and available resources.

A big thank you to the Dominican students for their thoughtful work and support on this project, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We are always grateful for the opportunity to be out in the community.

What did California's legislature actually accomplish for housing in 2025? Lucie Hollingsworth cuts through the noise — covering everything from streamlined infill approvals to the bill that finally requires landlords to provide a working fridge. Every Novato family deserves basic repairs from their landlord without the fear of being evicted. Currently, Novato tenants do not have this right.

LAM and our coalition of Novato tenants, community members, and community organizations are working hard to pass a Just Cause Ordinance in Novato that makes this aspiration a fundamental right. Novato tenants should be able to request repairs without fear of losing their homes — as happened last year at Romar Court. Ensuring Novato families have safe, stable housing is best for our entire community.

Join us to advocate for basic tenant rights as we stand with displaced Romar Court families and tenants across Novato living in uninhabitable conditions.

How can you get involved?
Sign and share the petition: https://parent-voices-california.solidarity.tech/just-cause-marin?locale=en

Attend the Novato City Council meeting on Monday, March 24th at 6pm, where the council will consider this ordinance.
