Today, the San Diego Registrar of Voters certified the 2024 election results. Although we fell short of victory in our race for San Marcos City Council, I regret nothing about the stellar campaign we ran. To the 4,173 voters who showed confidence in my abilities to represent District 3, I am grateful and proud of each and every vote and I will continue to be a voice for our community. To all those who volunteered their time, treasure and talent to get out our message, I am eternally thankful. To my young management team (Ashkon Jones, Ryan Geraci, and Jacob Wetherbee), always reach for the stars as the light will always guide you.

I called Danielle LeBlang and congratulated her and wished her well for her upcoming term on the Council. I urged her to be an independent voice and to be the critical thinker I know her training as a lawyer has given her. She was gratious and said she would reach out to me again.

I continue my life as husband, father, grandfather, attorney, and as a community leader in my roles with sanmarcos_rotary_club_ca, Sierra Club San Diego, and San Marcos Democrats. The friends I’ve made at these clubs are lifelong and are the bright eyes and clear thinking minds with whom I am proud to work alongside. For now, I will take some time, smell the flowers, and be a little good to my friends and family.

Election Day is now in the rear view mirror both nationally and locally and the certification process is underway. Being a part of the democratic process can be exhilarating but it can also be depressing as it eats you up, spits you out, and disappointments you deep in the soul. As a candidate, I have experienced these disparate emotions.

The opening result of the my local race is certainly disappointing but we’ll watch as the Registrar processes mail ballots, conducts the audit, and reports to the Secretary of State. I want to express my thanks to all those who supported my campaign, knocked at doors, phoned or texted voters, wrote postcards, attended or hosted events, donated financially to my campaign or just plain been present during the long journey. I also want to thank all those who support democracy in action, from our City Clerk to our poll workers who make sure the rules and processes are followed. Most of all I thank my family, including my Rotary, Sierra Club, Dem Club, Chamber families and my campaign management team who remind me to be a balanced person and provide moral support to me every day.

Although the journey continues, my heartfelt gratitude extends forever.

Money in politics needs to be better controlled, especially in our local races. It’s simply wrong for developers to buy their representatives. Vote for Tiffany Boyd-Hodgson, Ph.D. political candidate and Jennifer Kerschbaum for Vallecitos Water District

The Building Industry Association of San Diego PAC has dumped over $41,000 into mailers related to Vallecitos Water District candidates.

Over and beyond.

Today my student volunteer (Patrick) spoke to an elderly, disabled voter in one of our eight senior parks who expressed concern that she lost her ballot and had no way to get to a polling location. He drove to her home, loaded her wheelchair and drove her to two different polling locations (one was having trouble with their machine), waited for her to vote and drove her back home. The voter called me to express her gratitude and pleasure with Patrick. Thank you Patrick. Kudos to you.

Working alongside a leader like Alan Geraci in the neighboring city of San Marcos would be a tremendous opportunity to further our shared goals along the 78 corridor. Alan has been a strong advocate for climate action, working-class families, and strengthening the community. If elected to represent the 3rd District on the City Council in San Marcos, he would be an invaluable partner in expanding our efforts toward inclusivity and sustainability in our region.

By voting for Alan, we can ensure a collaborative approach that enhances the progress we’ve made in North County, while creating a cohesive vision for a more sustainable future across our communities.
