You know what your body feels like. If something around your IV suddenly feels painful, swollen, or different, it’s worth speaking up.

Some signs that an IV may need attention include:
⚠️ Swelling or puffiness around the IV site
⚠️ Skin that appears stretched, pale, or shiny
⚠️ Burning, throbbing, or pressure
⚠️ Coolness or firmness around the area
⚠️ Fluid leaking near the catheter

It can be frustrating and frightening to raise a concern about your care and feel like it isn’t being taken seriously.

If you experienced an IV complication, your concerns were dismissed, and you’re now living with ongoing pain, numbness, weakness, or another injury, Hodes Milman can listen to what happened and help you determine whether medical negligence may have played a role.

Sometimes the hardest part is learning that the answer may have been there all along.

The test was done. The results were available. But somewhere between the result coming back and the next step in your care, something may have been missed.

Maybe no one called. Maybe an abnormal finding wasn’t followed up on. Maybe you kept returning with symptoms while the result sat in your medical record.

Then, weeks or months later, you learn there was something that needed attention.

When a delayed response to an abnormal test result leads to a delayed diagnosis or additional harm, it’s understandable to wonder what happened.

If this sounds familiar, Hodes Milman can listen to your story and help determine whether medical negligence may have played a role.

"You signed a consent form, so you can't sue."

Before an epidural, you sign paperwork acknowledging known risks. But here is what they don't tell you: A consent form does NOT give a healthcare provider permission to provide negligent medical care.

Known risks are one thing; preventable mistakes are another. Consent forms do not excuse:

❌ Improper needle or catheter placement
❌ Accidental puncture of the dura
❌ Failure to recognize signs of nerve injury
❌ Delayed treatment when complications arise

If you left the hospital with persistent numbness, severe headaches that worsen when sitting upright, or shooting nerve pain, don't let a liability form stop you from seeking answers.

Whether you have a case depends on how your care was handled, not just the paperwork you signed.

A summer spent learning, contributing, and seeing medical malpractice law from a whole new perspective.😎

We were proud to have Lillian Ahmadi join Hodes Milman this summer and even prouder to see her reflect on the experience with Saint Louis University School of Law.

From digging into the details of a case to seeing the importance of compassion in this work, we hope these are lessons she carries with her throughout her legal career.

Thank you for spending your summer with us, Lillian!

A missed brain aneurysm led to a $6.4 million medical malpractice settlement after a patient was sent home from the ER.

She had gone to the hospital for help after experiencing nausea and what she described as “the worst headache of her life.” She trusted that the testing would provide answers and that it was safe to go home.

Instead, her life changed dramatically just two days later.

Hodes Milman attorneys Daniel Hodes and Lee Weiss represented her in the case. For our client and her family, the impact extends far beyond what happened during that hospital visit. Her daily life, independence, and future care needs have all been affected.

A hospital stay for pancreatitis took a devastating turn when a 73-year-old retired chaplain began experiencing worsening weakness in his legs.

Those changes needed attention. Unfortunately, his progressive weakness was not recognized and investigated in time. He was ultimately left permanently paralyzed from the waist down, with complications that will require ongoing care.

Hodes Milman attorneys Daniel Hodes and Jacob Brender represented him and reached a $4.75 million settlement following mediation.

No settlement can undo what happened or give someone back the life they had before an injury. But it can help provide the resources needed for the care and support that come next.

Rehabilitation can become part of someone’s life without warning.

After medical negligence, recovery may mean months of physical therapy, relearning everyday tasks, working to regain speech or mobility, or adjusting to limitations that weren’t there before.

And behind every appointment is a person trying to get back to the life they knew, or learning how to move forward when life looks different now.

During National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we recognize the patients, families, therapists, and rehabilitation professionals who put so much into that process.

This year’s theme, “Building Futures Through Rehabilitation,” is an important reminder that recovery is about more than what was lost. It’s also about helping people regain independence, confidence, and quality of life.

If medical negligence has made rehabilitation part of your story, Hodes Milman is here to listen. https://vist.ly/5ifen

Seeking a second opinion doesn't mean you're questioning every doctor. It means you're taking an active role in your healthcare.

If you're still experiencing symptoms, don't fully understand your diagnosis, or feel like your concerns haven't been addressed, it's okay to ask for another perspective. A second opinion can provide clarity, confirm a treatment plan, or identify options that may not have been discussed.

And if you believe you've been harmed because of medical negligence, Hodes Milman is here to help you understand what happened, explain your legal options, and fight for the accountability you deserve.
