🎉 A Historic Victory for California Notaries!

We are proud to announce that Governor Gavin Newsom has signed AB 1597, the California Notary Fee Modernization Act, into law.

This marks the successful conclusion of months of advocacy and represents CLIN's biggest legislative achievement to date.

Together, we demonstrated the power of a united profession.

✔️ 1,950 letters of support submitted
✔️ Overwhelming bipartisan support in the Legislature
✔️ Signed into law on June 30, 2026

This victory belongs to every notary, supporter, organization, and advocate who took the time to write a letter, make a phone call, attend a town hall, share a social media post, or encourage others to get involved.

Thank you to Assemblymember Leticia Castillo for authoring and championing AB 1597, and thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom for signing this important legislation into law.

This law will help expand access to notarial services, support California's small businesses, and strengthen the future of our profession.

🚨 AB 1597 IS ONE SIGNATURE AWAY 🚨

On June 18, AB 1597, the California Notary Fee Modernization Bill, passed the California Senate by a unanimous 37–0 vote and is now headed to Governor Newsom's desk.

This historic milestone would not have been possible without the incredible support of our grassroots community. Together, we generated 1,950 letters of support and helped move this bill through every stage of the legislative process.

Now we have one final task.

AB 1597 is moving forward.

On March 16, 2026, the California Assembly passed the California Notary Fee Modernization Bill with a unanimous 75–0 vote.

This is a major milestone and it was made possible by the incredible engagement of California’s notary community.

Together, we submitted 1,910 letters of support to the Legislature, surpassing our original goal and demonstrating strong, statewide momentum.

The bill now moves to the California State Senate, where the next phase begins.

We are in a strong position but there is still work ahead to get this bill to the Governor’s desk.

AB 1597 strengthens consumer access to essential notarization services while recognizing the real operating costs carried by California’s working notaries. The bill is non-fiscal, has no General Fund impact, and is set to take effect January 1, 2027.
