So I'm heading to Austin on Tuesday, for the SXSW.

I went for thirty years, stopped for four or five, and then went again last year,.,.. and had a blast. You'll find me mostly on S. Congress St., running back and forth between the Continental Club, Jo's Coffee and the South By San Jose across the street, C-Boys, and catching an in-store or two at Waterloo Records and Antone's Record Shop. Some things never change.

Hard to think about SXSW without thinking about that fateful day 14 years ago when Alex Chilton died the day before I was to meet up with him. Just watched the Big Star documentary, "Nothing Can Hurt Me" the other day on HBO, for the first time in a long time. Here's a shot from the movie of me and Jody Stephens of Big Star, preparing for the show at Antone's that had been turned into a tribute to Alex.
