Action required for attorneys with client trust accounts — deadline July 1, 2026.

Under Business and Professions Code section 6091.3, designated attorneys of all client trust accounts (IOLTA and non-IOLTA) must serve a Notice to Financial Institutions form on their financial institution by July 1, 2026.

What to do:
→ Complete the State Bar's Notice to Financial Institutions form — one per trust account.

→ Serve the completed form on your bank per Code of Civil Procedure section 684.115.

→ Use the DFPI website to locate your bank's designated service of process address.

→ Update trust account and contact information in My State Bar Profile within 30 days of any changes.

This is an ongoing obligation. Designated licensee information must also be updated with your financial institution within 30 days if a designated licensee becomes inactive, ineligible to practice, or leaves the firm.

⚠️ Attorney Record Verification Deadline: June 30, 2026

CA Attorneys who have not completed their annual attorney record verification requirement must act by June 30 to avoid being placed on administrative inactive status (Not Eligible to Practice) effective July 1, 2026. Reinstatement will require:

✅Completion of the record verification requirement
✅$106 noncompliance fee
✅$318 reinstatement fee
✅Submission of the Attorney Record Verification Noncompliance Reinstatement Form

Now called the Certified Law Student (CLS) Program, the update aligns with the California Rules of Court and broadens who can participate. JD students, LLM students, and those in the Law Office Study Program may all qualify to provide supervised legal services before passing the bar.
