What happens when legal is expected to move faster, do more, embrace AI, and prove its business impact—all without additional resources?

That's the reality facing many legal departments today.

Workloads are growing. Expectations are rising. Yet many teams are still operating with staffing and delivery models built for a different era.

The challenge is no longer whether legal provides value.

The challenge is whether legal's operating model allows teams to deliver that value consistently and at scale.

Join Paragon Legal and In-House Connect for a CLE webinar featuring legal leaders from Mozilla, 8x8, and Sandstone as we discuss how modern legal departments are building intentional legal portfolio strategies by aligning work across in-house teams, law firms, flexible legal talent, technology, and AI.

“AI is one more tool in the toolbox that's available to us. Having more options to choose from is always a good thing.”

That mindset is reshaping how modern legal teams operate today.

Historically, scaling legal meant —> hire more full-time lawyers or send the work to outside counsel.

Today, leading teams are taking a different approach.

They’re combining in-house talent, outside counsel, ALSPs, contract professionals, and flexible legal support to match resources to the work, not the other way around.

Because the question is no longer:
“How many people do we need?”

It’s:
“What’s the smartest way to get this work done?”

❓ What’s the most valuable addition to your legal team’s toolkit today?

Some of the best insights in The New GC Toolkit came directly from experienced legal leaders sharing what they learned the hard way.

Like:

“There is no one approach. It’s about using different resources based on the need.”

And:

“How can we eliminate capacity constraints altogether and create more scalable solutions?”

The modern GC role is changing fast and the strongest leaders are rethinking everything from resourcing to executive influence to operational scale.

This carousel highlights a few of the standout quotes and takeaways from the ebook.

⚖️ Legal isn’t there to stop the business. It’s there to help it move forward.

In our latest GC Sidebar episode, Doe Gregersen, General Counsel at Nav Technologies, shares a perspective that reshapes the in-house role.

The job isn’t to eliminate risk or be the final “no.”

It’s to work alongside the business, flag risk, put it into context, and help teams make informed decisions so they can keep moving.

Because legal advice only matters if it helps the business achieve what it set out to do.

Swipe to see three moments that capture how she thinks about enabling the business while managing risk.

How is your team balancing risk and progress today?

This week, our team came together in Austin, Texas for three days of connection, collaboration, and a lot of fun.

Throughout the week, we shared ideas, celebrated successes, and spent more one-on-one time together. We also worked in teams to explore AI tools and identify opportunities to work more efficiently and better support our clients and attorneys. From kayaking and a boat cruise on Lady Bird Lake to yoga sessions and team dinners, it was a great reminder that strong teams are built through both work and shared experiences.

We're grateful for the time together and already looking forward to the next one.

Here’s a few highlights from Austin 👇

💡 What if the role of legal isn’t to stop risk, but to help the business move through it?

In our latest GC Sidebar episode, we’re joined by Doe Gregersen, General Counsel at Nav Technologies, for a candid conversation about what it really means to succeed in-house.

Doe shares a perspective that’s redefining the GC role: the job isn’t to protect the business from itself. It’s to enable it.

That means being a thought partner across teams, helping flag and contextualize risk, and supporting the business as it makes decisions and moves forward.

Because the reality is, risk doesn’t go away.

But it can be understood, managed, and navigated in a way that still allows the business to achieve its goals.

In our conversation, we discuss:
- Why legal should be embedded in decisions, not brought in at the end
- How to move from saying “no” to helping the business move forward
- Why the AI conversation may be more hype than reality for many teams
- How relationships drive trust and influence across the organization

Most GCs are measured by their answers. The best ones are measured by how they help the business move forward.

How is your team thinking about balancing risk and progress today?

We’ve been thrilled by the response to The New GC Toolkit so far.

One legal leader at a leading automotive company recently shared:

"Just went through your GC Toolkit—great resource! Loved seeing the insights from other legal leaders."

That was exactly our goal.

We created this toolkit to bring together practical lessons from experienced GCs and insights from several legal professionals across different industries, including in-house leaders on the GC track.

Whether you're stepping into the GC role yourself or mentoring someone who is, we hope this serves as a practical resource for the journey.

🏁 Twenty years ago, Cars raced into theaters and BluRay was just starting to become a thing.

As Paragon Legal marks 20 years, our 20 Faces of Paragon series continues with Jessie Santiago, who supports Legal Operations teams through Paragon.

Jessie joined Paragon in 2023 as a senior consultant supporting a global pharmaceutical company across several legal operations initiatives. At a moment when both career and family priorities were coming together, Paragon’s model offered the flexibility she needed to stay sharp in her field while balancing what mattered most.

She describes Paragon as a well-oiled machine that places talent quickly and shows real care for both clients and team members.

Because behind strong legal teams are operations professionals whose influence helps leadership succeed.

🤝 “Relationships are the job.”

In the next episode of GC Sidebar, Doe Gregersen, General Counsel at Nav Technologies, shares a simple idea that changes how in-house lawyers show up.

Building trust isn’t a side effect of the role. It is the role.

When relationships are intentional, legal gets pulled in earlier, has more influence, and can help the business move forward, not just react to risk.

How intentional are you about building relationships in your role today? Curious how others think about this.
