This week's buzz among consumer attorneys: a jury awarded a woman nearly $83 million dollars in punitive damages against Portfolio Recovery Associates, a well known debt buyer. Of course they will appeal and the award may be reduced... or even thrown out completely... but its still exciting! I tip my hat to the plaintiff's attorneys who pulled this off.

The $82 million verdict levied by a Jackson County jury is meant to send a message to the debt collection industry, according to a Kansas City lawyer who won the case for a Kansas City woman accused of owing credit card debt that was not hers.
