Happy Holidays- BOI requirement is back!

On December 23, 2024, the Fifth Circuit appelate court lifted the lower court's preliminary injunction that had paused the Corporate Transparency Act's requirements for filing beneficial ownership information (BOI).

Fincen graciously extended the deadline by 13 days: Existing companies (formed before January 1, 2024) have until January 13, 2025, to file.

California just passed Prop. 36, which makes the theft of $950 of goods or less from stores now classified as a felony punishable by up to three years if the offender has “two or more past convictions for certain theft crimes (such as shoplifting, burglary or carjacking).” It also lengthens felony sentences by up to three years if at least three people jointly commit a theft or property crime, and requires that some felonies — such as dealing drugs like fentanyl — be served in state prison and not county jail.

California voters approved state Proposition 36, meant to curb crime, by 71% to 29%, according to early unofficial election results.
