When does bad workplace behavior cross the line into illegal harassment?
A difficult boss, rude coworker, or toxic workplace can make going to work miserable, but not every unfair or offensive interaction is considered unlawful harassment under California law.
The difference often comes down to why the employee is being targeted and whether the conduct is connected to a legally protected characteristic, such as race, s*x, disability, age, religion, s*xual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.
