in 2017, a "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville turned fatal when an Ohio man accelerated his car into a crowd of counterprotesters, killing 32-year-old peaceful counterprotester Heather Heyer and leaving 19 others injured, five critically.

James Alex Fields, the driver in the deadly car attack at the Charlottesville rally, was sentenced to life in prison.
