Big news for San Francisco families - and potentially for our housing market.
Last night, the SFUSD school board voted 5-2 to develop a new enrollment system that would guarantee families a seat at their neighborhood elementary school, while preserving access to specialized citywide programs.
The target is the 2028–29 school year. Attendance boundaries and other details still need to be worked out, with a final policy vote scheduled for April 2027.
If this moves forward, school attendance boundaries could become a much bigger factor in home searches - and potentially intensify competition for homes within certain boundaries. As a San Francisco parent and Realtor, I’ll be following both the policy details and their potential impact on our neighborhoods closely.
