This holiday weekend, our officers focused on one simple goal: saving lives through seat belt safety.

During the Holiday Enforcement Period, CHP officers issued 2,172 seat belt citations to drivers and passengers who chose not to buckle up. While citations are never the goal, every stop was an opportunity to prevent a tragedy.

Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones on the road. No matter how short the trip is, buckle up every time.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The checkpoint will take place in the Town of Woodside along Woodside Road.

DUI checkpoint locations are selected based on statistics showing where alcohol or drug related crashes occur most frequently. The purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety and increase awareness of the dangers associated with driving while intoxicated and to serve as a deterrent to potential impaired drivers.

Never drive under the influence. If you plan to drink, make arrangements ahead of time such as using a rideshare service, taxi or a designated driver. One good decision can prevent a lifetime of consequences.

This checkpoint is made possible through funding provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.

DUI CHECKPOINT RESULTS 🚨

During our DUI checkpoint conducted on Friday, April 3, Traffic Unit officers contacted over 600 vehicles, made 1 DUI arrest, issued 27 citations, and towed 3 vehicles. 12 drivers were arrested for driving with a suspended/revoked license.
