✅ DHS Reversed the Green Card Policy — But Don't Relax Just Yet
On May 22nd USCIS announced that not everyone would be able to get a green card inside the U.S. — only those who could explain extraordinary circumstances for staying.
There was a massive outcry. Immigration lawyers, experts, journalists and rights groups pointed out that adjustment of status is explicitly allowed under congressional law — the Immigration and Nationality Act.
About a week later DHS reversed course: yes, you can still adjust status inside the U.S.
Good news. But here's what you need to know:
The reversal doesn't erase the new questions already introduced into the I-485 interview. There are now four new questions about why you're getting your green card inside the U.S. instead of through consular processing.
We have these questions and prepare our clients for them.
What we advise: 🔹 Be prepared for any turn of events — policy can change again 🔹 Know how to answer the four new I-485 questions 🔹 Make sure you can explain your reasons clearly to the officer
Stay alert. Stay vigilant 🙏
