The Dixon Firm once again sponsored "Just the Beginning San Diego's Summer Legal Institute." Just the Beginning is dedicated to increasing diversity in the legal field, ensuring that future lawyers and judges reflect the backgrounds and perspectives of the community. It hosts education on the legal profession for diverse groups of students in cities across the country. This year's program in San Diego hosted 50 high school students teaching about the legal profession and civic engagement, ending with a reception at the federal court.

It is unlawful for an employer to even attempt to enforce a non-compete agreement in California. In fact, an employer could be sued for requiring employees to sign a non-compete agreement or attempting to enforce it, including being required to pay attorney's fees. Often employees are concerned that their employers will try to enforce "non-compete" agreements and prevent them from finding new employment with a competitor or employer in the same industry. With very limited exceptions, California does not limit an employee's right to work and does not enforce non-compete agreements. It is always important for employers and employees to know the law.
