Please join us in congratulating attorneys Shalimar Wallis, Bailey Rader, and Mike Murray, along with the rest of our team, on helping secure a $6 million settlement in this UTV accident case.

In October 2016, a family’s life was forever changed when a Can-Am Commander 1000 XT Side-by-Side UTV suddenly lost steering control and rolled over, seriously injuring their 10-year-old daughter.

Our client, the child’s mother, came to our team nine years into an already long and complicated legal battle, needing hope that there was still a path forward. The case had made its way to the Texas Supreme Court and back multiple times, and a settlement had already been reached with the most culpable defendant, but we knew there was still work to be done to achieve justice, and our team was ready to fight.

Our team spent countless hours reviewing nearly a decade of evidence, depositions, pleadings, motions, and the extensive history of the case. And when it was time to take the case to trial, they were ready.

We showed the remaining defendants that we were not backing down and that we were prepared to fight for our client every step of the way. In the end, that relentless preparation and willingness to take the case to trial helped bring this nearly 10-year legal battle to a close and, most importantly, provided our client with a sense of closure.

We always fight the good fight, even when it means stepping into a case years later, catching up on nearly a decade of litigation, and doing double time to get our clients across the finish line.

Kudos to the entire team for the relentless work, dedication, and commitment to this family.

Good legal writing isn’t about sounding more “lawyerly.” It’s about making your argument clear, persuasive, and impossible to misunderstand.

From unnecessary Latin phrases and repetitive legal jargon to wordy introductions and overused intensifiers, even experienced attorneys can fall into writing habits that make their arguments harder to follow.

So, what should you avoid? And more importantly, how can you make your legal writing stronger?

Our blog breaks down some of the most common legal writing pitfalls and offers practical ways to make your pleadings, motions, and briefs clearer, more concise, and persuasive.

Whether your reader is a judge, opposing counsel, or your client, the goal is the same: make your point, and make it well.

Please join us in congratulating attorneys Jorge Mares and David Sierra, along with our team, on securing a $1.4 million settlement in an auto accident case.

The defendants initially disputed liability, despite their driver running a red light. Our team knew that the facts told a different story.

Armed with video footage captured by a passing vehicle and, even more importantly, the defendant driver’s own admission that he was looking at a completely different intersection immediately before the crash, our team built their case. They ultimately dismantled the defense’s position and maximized the settlement value.

This is an example of what preparation, persistence, strategy, and teamwork can accomplish.

Great job, team!

A deposition isn't just a discovery tool; it's often one of the most consequential moments in litigation.

While cases are rarely won during a lay witness deposition, they can be lost when a witness is unprepared. Effective deposition preparation isn't about coaching testimony. It's about equipping clients and lay witnesses to understand the process, communicate truthfully, and avoid common pitfalls that can undermine their credibility.

In our latest blog, we explore why witness preparation should be treated as a core component of trial strategy and not a last-minute administrative task.

Sometimes, the strongest results come from being willing to walk away from the table and keep fighting.

Our clients were involved in a side-swipe collision that resulted in injuries requiring medical treatment. Both clients also had significant prior medical histories that the defense argued could explain their current symptoms. To make matters more challenging, the case was set in a tough venue.

At mediation, the defense’s offer fell far short of what our team believed the case was worth. So, keeping our clients’ best interests in mind, our team walked away.

Rather than accept an offer that did not reflect the strength of our clients’ claims, Oscar Quiroz, Mike Murray, Jessica Peisen, and the rest of the team continued preparing for trial and pushing the case forward.

Just weeks before trial, that persistence paid off.

The case ultimately settled for more than 3x the mediation offer and nearly 8x our clients’ combined medical expenses.

This result is another testament to the power of preparation, persistence, and a willingness to take a case to the brink of trial to get our clients what they deserve. That is exactly what our law firm is all about.

Kudos, team!

Just like that, another incredible summer is coming to a close.

Over the past few months, our Class of Summer 2026 has immersed themselves in the practice of law by attending trials and hearings, contributing to meaningful litigation, collaborating with our attorneys, and experiencing firsthand what it means to advocate for clients.

Beyond the legal work, they've built friendships, shared plenty of laughs, and become an important part of the Guerra LLP family. We are incredibly proud of everything they accomplished during their time with us and grateful for the energy, curiosity, and dedication they brought to our team.

We're excited that several of our Grasshoppers will continue their journey with us this fall, while others return to school with a deeper understanding of plaintiff advocacy. We can't wait to see what each of them accomplishes next, and we're proud to be part of their journey.

Not all damages are visible on a medical bill.

After an injury, you may face both tangible (economic) losses, like medical expenses and lost wages, and intangible (non-economic) losses, like pain and suffering or loss of enjoyment of life.

Understanding the difference is an important step in understanding your rights after an accident.

When the insurance company refused to see the value of our clients' case, our team never stopped fighting.

Our clients, a married couple (one a San Antonio police officer and the other an elementary school teacher), were seriously injured when a reckless 18-wheeler driver crashed into their vehicle.

The defense fought back hard. They claimed our clients' medical treatment was unnecessary, their bills excessive, and even attempted to shift blame onto the victims of the crash.

Our team didn't flinch.

The result: a $750,000 settlement for two people who deserved every bit of it.

Congratulations to Attorneys Jorge Mares and David Fuentes and their team for their relentless advocacy and commitment to justice.

When insurance companies refuse to do the right thing, we don't stop fighting until they do.
