Utah Bill Lowering Legal Limit to .05 from .08 Passes House!!!
On Thursday, a bill lowering the legal limit for Driving Under the Influence in Utah from .08 BAC to .05 passed the House and now goes to the Senate for consideration. Although .05 is the legal limit for some European and Asian countries, the Bill, if passed, would make Utah the first state to lower the limit legal limit to .05.
Proponents of the Bill argue that lowering the limit is not meant to discourage drinking, but will make people think twice about drinking and driving.
Critics, on the other hand, argue that the law already provides for enforcement of driver's who are impaired but below the legal limit and that enforcing a lower limit will not necessarily make roads safer.
Tell us what you think?
Will this make you less likely to drink? Less likely to drive after drinking anything (despite it being legal to drink and drive within certain parameters)?
Or is this another case of Utah lawmakers doing their best to make anything to do with drinking alcohol as difficult as possible?
A bill to make Utah's blood-alcohol limit for driving the lowest in the nation passed the Utah House of Representatives on Thursday.
