Immigration Concerns Under Donald Trump's Presidency. We are here to help.

Donald Trump’s victory this past Tuesday raises more questions regarding immigration matters in the U.S. than were answered by the voters. It is difficult to predict the negatives (and positives, if any) that U.S. employers and foreign nationals—both inside the U.S. and those trying to enter the U.S.—will face with the second Trump Administration, but from 2017-2021 we were faced with unprecedented hurdles set up by the Trump Administration for foreign nationals and U.S. employers trying to hire them, and our clients continued to thrive and we all survived. We want to remain cautiously optimistic this time around, but will be carefully watching for the following:

1. President Trump says “promises made, promises kept.” Does this mean he will work with Congress to pass legislation to grant every foreign national student in the U.S. a green card upon graduation, which he promised in June 2024? Or will he once again try to restrict the ability of foreign students in the United States to work for one year after graduation as they have been allowed to do for decades?

2. Will President Trump try to deport 12-14 million undocumented people currently inside the U.S., which will devastate the U.S. economy, or will he find a way to legally permit them to continue to fill the essential jobs that most Americans do not want to do?

3. Will President Trump try once again, as he did in his last term, to grind the H-1B visa program to a halt? Will he again create massive turmoil for U.S. employers who legally hire immigrants by instructing The Department of Homeland Security and The State Department to slow down or completely halt applications for legal immigration? Or has he learned the true benefits that legal immigration brings to the U.S. economy?

4. Will President Trump take away the Temporary Protected Status currently benefitting Venezuelans, Haitians, Afghanis, Cameroonians, and others in the U.S.? Will he violate current immigration laws that permit those seeking political asylum to have their cases heard?

Our firm is committed to protecting the legal rights of our clients and strategically presenting their legal immigration applications to the federal government. Let us know how we can help.

Uniting for Ukraine Parole

On April 21, 2022, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a new type of Parole (permission to enter the U.S.) for Ukrainians that are outside of the United States and who have a U.S. Supporter who is in a lawful status in the United States (or is otherwise authorized to stay in the U.S.). The U.S. Supporter needs to demonstrate financial resources to receive, maintain, and support the individuals whom they commit to support for the duration of their stay.
In order to qualify for the Parole, Ukrainian citizens need to have cleared background checks and have the U.S. Supporter file a Form I-134—a Declaration of Financial Support--and be vetted by the U.S. government. There is no fee for filing the Form I-134 and it can be filed online.
Once the Form I-134 is processed by USCIS, the government will send the Ukrainian beneficiary information about the next steps. USCIS has not yet announced estimated processing times.
Once the Parole is granted, the Ukrainian Beneficiary can travel to the U.S. to be paroled for up to 2 years and be eligible to apply for work permit.
Ukrainians who have a pending request for humanitarian parole filed on Form I-131, can still apply for this new Parole under Uniting for Ukraine and withdraw the pending I-131 (the USCIS will refund the I-131 fee).
The benefits of applying for the Uniting for Ukraine Parole:
- There is no fee to apply.
- Faster processing.

The amazing employees at Goldman & Partners Immigration Law collected significant funds to support Ukrainian children temporarily residing in Poland. Our Partner Kasia Loor, who is originally from Poland, connected with her family to find the best way to help. We decided to provide the needed donation to the former elementary school of Kasia in Poland, currently hosting a group of Ukrainian children who fled the war. The donation was used to sponsor dinners, textbooks, school supplies and school activities for these kids. We are proud of the generosity and big heart of people working at GPI.
