Join our legal community on May 1 at 2:00 PM at the Hennepin County Government Center for a meaningful Law Day gathering.

This short, inspiring event centers on a simple but powerful moment: retaking the attorney’s oath. Whether you took that oath recently or decades ago, this is an opportunity to stand together and publicly reaffirm our shared commitment to the Constitution, the rule of law, and the principles that guide our profession. Following the oath, we’ll hear brief remarks from leaders in the legal community, including ABA President Michelle Behnke, St. Thomas University President Rob Vischer, Hon. James Rosenbaum, and MSBA President Tom Pack.

All are welcome—attorneys, judges, and members of the public—and we hope you will join us.

"The start of 2026 has been a stressful time for everyone in the Twin Cities, but particularly for students and teachers. How do you keep coming back to a place of learning when it’s been turned into some kind of political battleground where constitutional rights are being tested?"

Students across the Twin Cities are grappling with big questions about rights, community, and the rule of law. RCBA President Maya Missaghi shares how the RCBA Youth Civics Initiative can be a meaningful way for attorneys to show up for young people in this moment—helping them understand the legal system and see that their voices matter.

Many of our members have reached out looking for ways to help immigrants and community members who have been harmed by recent ICE actions. We've worked with partners at various civil legal aid organizations and a non-exhaustive list of opportunities for attorneys to use their skills to help. We Struck Gold at the 50th Anniversary Bench and Bar Benefit!

On November 13th, the RCBA community gathered at the St. Paul Hotel for a night of fun and fundraising to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ramsey County Bar Foundation's Bench and Bar Benefit. Thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored, and donated to make this milestone gala a success. A special shout out to Martin Kappenman, who received the 2025 RCBA Pro Bono Award during the evening. From our live and silent auctions to the golden ticket raffle, heads-or-tails games, golden mystery boxes, and more, the gala raised funds to support the Bar Foundation and Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services.
Enjoy the photo album from our golden evening of giving.

"As the seasons begin to change, I started to think of the passage of time. This led me to realize I needed to get going on writing a column for the Barrister. I then Googled "ways to measure time" and discovered an engaging article about two different ways the ancient Greeks had to conceptualize it: chronos and kairos."

In this week's Barrister, RCBA President Maya Missaghi shares a recommendation with her fellow attorneys: make time for an activity that you can get lost in. Read the full column: https://mnbars.org/?pg=Barrister&pubAction=viewIssue&pubIssueID=61915&pubIssueItemID=402555

Maya Missaghi began her year-long term as president of the Ramsey County Bar Association on July 1, 2025.

"I am honored to step into the role of Bar President for this year,” Missaghi said. “While I have no grand visions for my tenure, ‘keep calm and carry on’ comes to mind, which to me means continuing the great work and programs we have in place, remaining nimble and curious to the creative solutions an unexpected set of events may require, and doing my best to showcase how wonderfully diverse and quirky our local legal community is—and hopefully we can all have some fun along the way!"

RCBA will be taking part in the National Law Day of Action on Thursday, May 1. Attorneys are invited to join us at this event and retake your Attorney's Oath. We took this pledge upon admission to the bar. The oath is the cornerstone of our profession, and it represents our promise to support the Constitution of the United States. It encompasses a duty to defend the Constitution, protect constitutional rights, ensure due process, and oppose laws or actions that undermine it. By retaking the oath, you reiterate your role as a guardian of the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
