🚧 Construction is officially underway for the Oak Park Art Garden! 🚧
Atlas Lab is excited to see this transformative community project move into construction alongside our incredible client, Led by as prime consultant and landscape architect, the project reimagines a long-standing grassroots art and garden space into an accessible, multi-functional destination centered on community gathering, ecological stewardship, creativity, and neighborhood identity. Key project features include flexible community event space, restrooms, gardens, seating, lighting, art integration throughout the site, and new homes for the Oak Park Tool Library and SABA Bike Library + repair station.

We are grateful to collaborate with an amazing team to help realize this vision in the heart of Oak Park and look forward to sharing progress as construction continues.

Introducing Fremont Park Bloom — ATLAS Lab’s newest placemaking installation, transforming Fremont Park into a glowing field of giant California poppies through June 30.

Inspired by California’s state flower, the installation was designed to bring color, whimsy, light, and joy into one of Midtown Sacramento’s most beloved public spaces. Featuring illuminated 6–9 foot poppy sculptures created in collaboration with Gina Rossi, the project creates an immersive experience meant to be explored day and night.

This project reflects something we deeply believe in: public parks should inspire delight, creativity, gathering, and connection. Seeing this idea evolve from early concepts nearly two years ago into a built experience for the community has been incredibly rewarding.

🌱 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | MAPLE PARK
Atlas Lab is honored to be working alongside La Familia Counseling Center to reimagine the future of the Maple Park Campus—transforming a former elementary school site into a vibrant, community-centered place rooted in culture, resilience, and joy. For too long, families in North Franklin have lived without something many neighborhoods take for granted:
🌳 shade
🛝 safe outdoor space
🤍 a nearby place to gather, rest, and play

Maple Park changes that—intentionally and collectively. This project reclaims underutilized land and reshapes it into a welcoming, green public space that reflects the Latino heritage, pride, and energy of the surrounding community, a place where culture is visible, nature is accessible, and people feel a sense of belonging.

Atlas has developed a series of site plan concepts shaped by community values, weaving together:
🌿 climate-resilient design
🌞 shade and heat-mitigation strategies
🎨 moments of color, pattern, and whimsy
🌺 cultural expression inspired by Latino traditions and storytelling

Through landscape, art, and placemaking, Maple Park is becoming more than a park, it is a community benefit, a climate response, and a celebration of identity. We are excited to help bring this vision to life alongside La Familia and the North Franklin community.

Biodiversity and Landscape Maintenance
Survey - Your insights needed! Do you design, install, or maintain biodiverse landscapes? Supported by the Deb Mitchell Research Grant, and want to hear from you.

Please share your experiences — particularly how biodiversity is (or isn’t) prioritized in design decisions and maintenance practices — via a short, 5-7 minute survey. Complete the survey that most closely aligns with your role. The surveys close Sept 19.

Lecture Title: Designing Conscious Spaces
Designing Conscious Spaces is about bringing humanistic and artistic design solutions for cities that are culturally, historically, and ecologically responsive.
A design process that empowers communities through accessible, inclusive, and interactive narratives embedded in the tactical world they live in. Principals, Kimberly Garza and Erik Prince of Atlas Lab will present a new range of projects that expand from grassroots design initiatives to complex multidisciplinary projects - where the designers’ role as a listener and facilitator to elevate a community’s voice and translate authentic interventions become paramount to confront pressing challenges in the built environment.

🚧 We’re almost there! Construction is nearing completion at Aggie Square Innovation District — and we couldn’t be more excited to see this transformational project come to life.
is proud to be part of the design team reimagining the UC Davis Sacramento campus into a vibrant, inclusive innovation hub rooted in health, equity, and connection. Our work focused on crafting a climate-resilient open space that celebrates the region’s ecological heritage while prioritizing walkability, shade, and community-centered design.

From gatherings spaces to pollinator-friendly landscapes and tree canopies that mitigate extreme heat, Aggie Square is designed to foster collaboration, promote wellness, and serve the broader Sacramento community.

Big thanks to our project partners and collaborators who helped bring this vision closer to reality. Stay tuned — more updates coming soon as we reach the finish line!
