For those that do not know, my 12 year old daughter Jelena is a Type 1 Diabetic. This is a different disease then Type 2, an auto-immune disease that essentially kills off her pancreas. Which means without a cure,she will spend the rest of her life with an insulin pump and limiting sugar and carbs. And with a significantly shortened life expectancy. I can tell you Halloween is hard for a T1D child.

Now for the reason of the post. Jelena is fundraising for JDRF the leading research and support non-profit for JDRF. This Sunday she is doing a walk and has already raised almost $1,000 herself and $2,000 for the team of friends she put together. But she would like to do more, please consider supporting her.

No, this isn’t about St Patrick’s Day, it’s to get your attention. Jeb Burton and his son Jackson have dyed their hair green in preparation for shaving their heads to raise money for childhood cancer research, through a charity called St Baldrick’s. This will be Jeb’s 11th year shaving and Jackson’s 10th. Last year they raised a combined amount of $15,623 dollars, and over the last 10 years they have jointly raised over $60,000 dollars for Childhood Cancer Research. This year they are aiming to get that number to 70 thousand. This is very important, because childhood cancer is different from adult cancer. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded, as it is a topic most people are uncomfortable thinking about.

Mulvaney’s B&L in Mid-town Sacramento is hosting this shaving event on Monday, March 6th, at 5:00pm. If you happen to be in the Sacramento Area come and join them, and please consider helping sponsor their campaigns, or even better shaving yourself. It’s a great cause and while 100% of the donation goes to fight cancer, 40% is earmarked for Northern California via Keaton's Child Cancer Alliance to fund local research and family/patient support.

And if you see them with hair hair dyed green this week, or completely bald the week after, it’s not a fashion statement but instead a call to action!
