Trying to finalize your California divorce? ⚖️

The California Judicial Council publishes the Judgment Checklist (FL-182) to help self-represented litigants and judicial clerks make sure judgment packages are complete before they are submitted to the judge for judicial review. 👩🏽‍⚖️

⚠️ Every county court may have its own process. Check your court’s local forms and local rules because many courts have their own judgment checklist or additional requirements.

📩 Got a rejection letter? Read it! Rejection notices often tell you exactly what needs to be corrected or provided before your divorce can be finalized.

Need help figuring out your next steps? Schedule an appointment and bring your case file and any rejection notices. We can review the judgment checklist together and help prepare what’s needed to move your case toward final judgment.

⚖️ Legal document preparation only. We are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice. Self-help services at client’s specific discretion. Sacramento LDA Reg. 2020-03 Exp. 08/04/28

California’s new Joint Petition Divorce, rolled out in 2026, is changing how eligible couples can file an uncontested divorce. If you and your spouse are on the same page and want to resolve your divorce cooperatively, this may be the right option for you.

Here’s what you should know:

✅ Both spouses file the case jointly—there is no Petitioner or Respondent.
✅ Filing the Joint Petition immediately starts California’s six-month statutory waiting period on the same day.
✅ There is no formal service of process because both parties file together.
✅ The case must be resolved through a written Marital Settlement Agreement (MSA) that is signed and notarized by both parties.
✅ Both parties must complete and exchange their Preliminary Declarations of Disclosure. Final Declarations of Disclosure may be waived by written agreement.
✅ Most California courts are currently collecting two first appearance filing fees (currently $435 per party, totaling $870). Be sure to check with your local court for the current filing fees in your county.

This new process is designed for couples who are committed to reaching an agreement from the outset, allowing them to move through the divorce process more efficiently while maintaining control over the outcome.

Wondering whether a Joint Petition, Summary Dissolution, or True Default Divorce is the best fit for your situation? We’d be happy to help you determine the right path.

🎬 The real legal drama isn’t in the courtroom… it’s behind the scenes at the State Bar of California.

California’s 2024 Justice Gap Study found that 85% of civil legal problems receive little or no legal help. Millions of Californians are left to navigate the legal system on their own.

Enter California’s best-kept legal secret…

Legal Document Assistants (LDAs).

For 26 years, we’ve quietly helped everyday Californians access the courts. We’re licensed, regulated, and bonded by the State of California, providing consumers with accountability and financial protections.

Ironically, California generally doesn’t require attorneys to carry malpractice insurance, yet expanding the role of licensed non-attorney legal professionals has remained controversial.

Then something remarkable happened.

The State Bar itself, under former Executive Director Leah Wilson, acknowledged that California needed a new approach. It explored expanding the role of qualified non-attorney legal professionals to help address the justice gap and modernize the delivery of legal services.

The effort never made it across the finish line.

Meanwhile…

Tom Girardi—once one of California’s most celebrated attorneys and the estranged husband of Erika Jayne from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills—was disbarred and later sentenced to federal prison for stealing millions from his own clients.

That’s the plot twist.

The bonded and registered professionals helping Californians afford legal services?

Still fighting to do more.

One of the state’s most celebrated attorneys?

Convicted of stealing from the very clients he was sworn to protect.

🎤 Netflix… you’re filming the wrong documentary.

The real story is California’s justice gap, the fight over who gets to deliver affordable legal services, and the licensed legal professionals most Californians have never heard of.

Now that’s a documentary worth watching. 🍿

California just changed the divorce game.

Introducing the Joint Petition for Dissolution — what we call the Same-Day Divorce start.

If you and your spouse are on the same page, your divorce can start the same day it’s filed:
• One joint petition
• One court filing fee
• No response filed
• No court appearances
• No hearings
• Decisions based entirely on paperwork

✔ Available for couples with children
✔ Works with community property, retirement, and homes
✔ Streamlined settlement agreements
✔ Mandatory 6-month waiting period still applies — but the process is cleaner, faster, and calmer

This is divorce without the drama — designed to make your life easier from day one.

📌 We handle the document preparation so you don’t have to navigate this alone.
