I was called to assist a family with documents they needed notarized, but unfortunately I couldn’t help.
The husband was not able to speak or sign documents and there was nothing in place like a Power of Attorney.
The wife was really emotional and told me last week he was laughing with his family, and in just the last couple days he lost his ability to do much at all. She said if she would have known she would have prepared sooner.
Unfortunately, I see and hear this often.
This is a reminder to have these conversations and take the time to get your estate affairs in order. Seek legal advice and learn about Trusts, Wills, Powers of Attorney, etc.
It’s not just about your assets, it’s about protecting your loved ones during difficult times too.
Don’t wait until it’s too late.
