Following years of debate, California’s Division of Workers Compensation has now formally adopted a new payment for the medical-legal fee schedule to compensate Qualified Medical Evaluators (QME). QME’s are doctors paid to evaluate injured workers to determine whether they meet the eligibility requirements for the state’s workers compensation benefits.

In 2020, per the National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It was found that the total number of workplace fatalities fell by 10% during 2020. Although there was a decline in nonfatal work-related injuries and illnesses, there was found to be an overall increase in workplace injuries or illnesses that required multiple days off from work.

These accidents can happen as the result of a variety of different causes. Redding police department was called to the scene of a construction worksite the day after Bouttavong was hit in the head by a falling steel pipe. Bouttavong was transported to Danbury Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The chief medical examiner ruled his death as an accident. OSHA has since launched an investigation into the incident.

a Bragg construction crane tipped over in downtown Sacramento on August 15th near the 12th and K street intersection. Construction crews had to close the affected areas surrounding the incident and called in another crane to help lift the toppled crane into an upright position.
