Applying for a visa? Avoiding these common mistakes could save your case.

Based on what we’ve seen in practice, here are four missteps that frequently cause problems for applicants:

1. Never filing taxes – If this applies to you, address it as soon as possible.

2. Underreporting income – This can create significant barriers across multiple visa pathways.

3. Hiding criminal history – Even tickets, charges, or convictions you think are minor should be disclosed to your attorney.

4. Concealing alternate names – If you have worked under a different name, used alternate identification, or entered the country with documents not your own, your attorney needs to know.

Immigration law is complex, and small omissions can have serious consequences. Being up front with your attorney allows us to anticipate problems and build the strongest possible case on your behalf.

If you have questions about your immigration situation, contact Miller Butler today for a confidential consultation.

Today, we recognize Cinco de Mayo as a meaningful opportunity to honor Mexican-American heritage right here in the United States. 💚🤍❤️

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, where an outnumbered Mexican army achieved an unlikely victory. In the U.S., over time, this day has grown into something more: a celebration of Mexican-American culture, resilience, family, and contributions to our communities.

At Miller Butler, we believe that understanding and honoring heritage matters. It matters in how we treat our neighbors. It matters in how we advocate for clients from all backgrounds. And it matters in building a community where everyone feels seen, respected, and valued.

May 1st is Law Day! Law Day is a reminder that the rule of law belongs to all of us—starting with our youngest citizens.

As part of this year’s Law Day efforts, Jenna Fogleman Saifi spent time with a local first‑grade class reading "We the Kids" and talking about fairness, rules, and why they matter.

The discussion focused on how rules help people treat one another fairly and create the conditions that allow individuals and communities to work toward their goals and dreams. Moments like these highlight why civic education matters and why the ideals in our Constitution are meant to be understood and valued from an early age.

We invite the community to continue the Law Day celebration by joining the Washington County Bar Association for Law Day 2026 from 2:00–5:00 p.m. today at the Historic Courthouse in Fayetteville. This year’s theme is “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.”

The program will include:
- A mock trial performed by University of Arkansas School of Law students at 2:00 p.m. in Judge Beaumont’s courtroom
- A panel discussion at 3:00 p.m. featuring former Chief Justice Dan Kemp, Professor Christopher Kelley, and Professor John Thorlin, moderated by Judge Diane Warren
- A reception at 4:00 p.m. on the second floor of the historic courthouse

We hope to see a strong showing from the local bar and community—please plan to attend and feel free to invite colleagues, clients, friends, and family!
