Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Garland earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, magna cm laude, from Clemson University before heading to the University of Arkansas School of Law, where she graduated cm laude with her Juris Doctor. She joined Miller Butler as a law clerk, gaining hands-on experience in civil litigation and client advocacy, and officially joined the team as an associate this September after passing the Arkansas Bar Exam. Her practice focuses on civil litigation.

Outside the office, Garland enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, and cheering on the Hogs and Tigers.

We are confident her dedication, sharp instincts, and client-first approach will be a tremendous asset to our firm and the clients we serve. Welcome to the team, Garland!

Federal law gives employees room to adjust how they work when a disability affects the job whether that’s a recent diagnosis or a condition that’s developed, changed, or become harder to manage while you’re already in the role. That protection is provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

What actually matters if you’re navigating this:

📄 Check company policy first. Most workplaces already have a process on the books — no need to reinvent it.

🗣️ Plain language works. Naming the health issue and what you need is enough. No legal script required.

✍️ Document the conversation. However it happens — email, text, a written recap — a paper trail protects you later.

None of this guarantees you’ll get the exact adjustment you ask for. That’s exactly why the details matter, and why they’re worth reviewing with an attorney before or after you make the request.

August is National Make-a-Will Month, which makes this a good time to look at the difference between a will and a trust — because for many families, a trust is the stronger choice.

A will must be admitted to probate, the court process required to authenticate it and distribute your estate. In Arkansas, probate takes a minimum of six months and can be costly for beneficiaries due to court fees. A trust, by contrast, is effective immediately upon signing, and any asset titled in the trust’s name avoids probate altogether.

A trust also offers more flexibility. Under a will, beneficiaries receive their inheritance outright at age 18. A trust allows you to structure distributions in stages, and, when properly drafted, can protect those shares from creditors, lawsuits, or divorce.
