Foreclosure filings are up 21% nationwide in the first half of 2026. Connecticut isn’t one of the places seeing it.

Here’s how seven states compare:

Connecticut: 1,763 filings, down 31% from last year
Florida: 27,494, up 33% (1 in 373 homes, the highest rate in the country)
Massachusetts: 2,719, up 3%
New York: 11,983, up 16%
New Jersey: 8,269, up 21% (1 in 459 homes)
Rhode Island: 248, down 35%
South Carolina: 6,419, up 32% (1 in 381 homes)

Completed foreclosures are up 33% nationally.

FHA loans are a weak spot. The Mortgage Bankers Association has FHA delinquencies at 11.79% in the second quarter, up 1.22 percentage points from a year ago. Conventional loans are at 2.72%. Higher taxes and insurance also make it harder to catch up once you fall behind.

Timing varies by state. A foreclosure takes 563 days on average nationally, the shortest since 2013. In Connecticut it’s 1,626 days, and in New York 2,007.

• 9 median days on market (7 last year)
• Homes closed at 103.3% of list price

Middlesex County
• 166 closed sales, up 17.7%
• $517,450 median sale price, up 8.9%
• 10 median days on market (13 last year)
• Homes closed at 101.1% of list price

Both counties favor sellers. Hartford is high and steady. Middlesex is gaining momentum: more sales, higher prices and faster closings than a year ago.
