Maryland is expanding its self-service emissions testing network, giving more drivers a quicker option to complete required vehicle inspections without waiting for a full-service lane.
A second VEIP kiosk is now available at the Gaithersburg testing location, with seven additional kiosks expected to roll out across the state in the coming months. Planned locations include Bel Air, Beltsville, Largo, Baltimore City’s East VEIP station, Silver Spring, Annapolis and Clinton.
The kiosks are available 24/7 and cost $26 per test, compared with $30 for full-service emissions testing. State officials say roughly 20% of Maryland emissions inspections are already completed using self-service kiosks.
Vehicle emissions testing is required in 14 Maryland jurisdictions. Most new vehicles are exempt for their first six years, while used vehicles are generally required to undergo testing every two years.
