This hit home.
We are weeks into term and my three children still don’t have their substantive education in place.
And the irony?
The core team who supported them successfully for over a year have tried to stay and continue working with our family, yet they’re being shown the door. We had meeting after meeting documenting how well the children were doing with them.
And still, here we are.
Their wellbeing is deteriorating, while I’m trying to hold three children together at home AND chase the people responsible for restoring their support.
Today I discovered senior management met last week about our situation. They have information I’ve been waiting for.
The person who was supposed to communicate it didn’t turn up this morning.
The meeting was rearranged for this afternoon.
He didn’t turn up then either.
Nobody else could give me the answer of course 🙄
And eventually, I ranted.
I told them I’ve been polite. I’ve thanked people. Collaborated. Attended meetings. Answered emails. Suggested solutions. Treated everyone with respect.
Why doesn’t that respect extend back to families?
Nobody has visited my children. Nobody has captured their voices. Nobody has assessed what weeks without education, trusted adults and routine are doing to them.
Yet meetings happen about them without us. Information sits between managers. Emails go unanswered.
And the parent is expected to keep functioning.
Meetings are only happening since our MP has written to the Chief Executive of Hertfordshire County Council asking questions.
Scrutiny shouldn’t be what it takes for a vulnerable family to finally be heard.
And I know this isn’t only our story.
How many parents are holding their family together with one hand while using the other to fight the system that was supposed to support them?
