This month we’re proud to highlight Principal David De Jong, Chair of Stein Sperling’s nationally recognized Tax Law Group. With more than 45 years of experience, David is a highly respected authority in tax law and has played a key role in growing the firm’s tax practice into a regional powerhouse, while helping preserve the collegial, community-focused culture that defines Stein Sperling.
Raised in Montgomery County, David always envisioned practicing law in his hometown. Today, he is known for his ability to see tax issues from his clients’ perspective, working closely with individuals and businesses to develop thoughtful strategies tailored to their unique circumstances. His experience, creativity, and sound judgment give clients confidence that their tax, estate, and business matters are in trusted hands.
David is also widely recognized beyond the firm. For 16 years, he co-authored J.K. Lasser’s Year-Round Tax Strategies and has been quoted in major publications including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. He has testified as an expert witness more than 50 times in tax, estate, business valuation, and income matters, and frequently speaks to industry groups across the country. In addition, he is trained in collaborative law and mediation, helping parties resolve complex disputes.
An active leader in the profession, David served as National President of the American Academy of Attorney-CPAs and received the organization’s lifetime service award. The Bar Association of Montgomery County has also honored him as an Honorary Life Bar Leader. He shares his knowledge with the next generation of lawyers as an adjunct professor at Washington & Lee University, teaching an intensive course in business transactions.
We’re grateful for David’s leadership, mentorship, and decades of dedication to Stein Sperling and the clients he has served.
