A California state court jury has cleared rail giant Union Pacific of all liability for a pedestrian’s leg amputation after he claims he was struck by a train while walking along railroad tracks.

Nicole Low, ‘17, is a civil litigation attorney, representing railroad in catastrophic injury cases. Low said McGeorge School of Law prepared her for her career through its wide variety of externships, electives, and award-winning trial advocacy program, which is consistently ranked among the top 10 in the nation. After graduating, Low got involved with the Alumni Board because she believes in the school and its mission. She wanted to be a part of McGeorge’s continued growth and to give back to the school.

FSS is pleased to announce the addition of attorney Simone Leighty.

Simone joins FSS from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.

She graduated with Distinction from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law with a concentration in Trial and Appellate Advocacy in 2020. She joins the ranks of FSS attorneys who have shined at McGeorge School of Law's Trial Advocacy program, and is perhaps the most decorated student to come out of the program.

During her time at McGeorge, Simone earned the several competition titles, including: Tournament Finalist at Drexel Law School’s “Battle of the Experts” Inaugural Tournament in 2018; Tournament Champion and Best Advocate (Preliminary Round and Final Round) at Loyola Law School’s National Civil Trial Competition in 2018; and Regional Champion and National Finalist at the National Trial Competition hosted by the Texas Young Lawyer’s Association in 2020.

Most notably, Simone was invited to participate as one of only sixteen competitors at Baylor Law School’s prestigious national Top Gun Mock Trial Tournament during her second and third years, having earned the title of Tournament Champion in 2020.

Simone was also very involved in several clubs and organizations, including serving as the President of the Criminal Law Society in 2018, the Vice President of the Trial Advocacy Board in 2019, and the Public Relations Chair on the Public Legal Services Society Executive Board in 2018 and 2019.

Simone will be handling transportation and employment litigation at FSS.

FSS is thrilled to announce that attorney Brittany M. Johnson has joined the firm. Ms. Johnson was born and raised in the Bay Area. She's a 2017 McGeorge School of Law graduate where she was an editor of the law review. In her final year at McGeorge, Ms. Johnson worked for the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District as a judicial extern.

Ms. Johnson has litigated personal injury, property damage, wrongful death, and premises liability cases in her career and will continue to do so at FSS in addition to developing an employment practice. She joins FSS from a nationwide insurer where she handled subrogation litigation.
