Ida B. Wells was a pioneer in both civil rights movements and the women’s suffrage movement. She had many major accomplishments through out her life time such as forming the Alpha Suffrage Club in Chicago in 1913 the largest Black women's suffrage organization in Illinois, to train women for political action. She was a co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the National Association of Colored Women (NACW). She even ran for Illinois State Senate in 1930 to encouraging Black women to engage in political office. Through all her activism Ida B. Wells helped all women secure the right to vote and she did so by advocating right here in our home city of Chicago.

We have whistle kits available in our office! Anyone can stop in and pick up kits for themselves, their neighbors or their business! If you see ICE activity blow the whistle to alert people to stay inside and to alert US citizens to come out and record. This is how we hold our government accountable.

Chicago Tribune Reporting: The United States government’s detention of Ruben Torres Maldonado, the 40-year-old Portage Park man detained by federal immigration agents while his 16-year-old daughter, Ofelia, is undergoing cancer treatment, is illegal and he must be given a bond hearing, federal judge Jeremy Daniel ruled on Friday.

Lawyers for the family petitioned the court for Maldonado to be freed as his deportation case works its way through the system.

In a short order late Friday, the judge ruled that Maldonado must be given a bond hearing on or before Halloween.

“We’re pleased that the judge ruled in our favor in determining that ICE is illegally detaining Ruben. We will now turn the fight to immigration court so we can secure Ruben’s release on bond while he applies for permanent residence status,” said Kalman Resnick, the attorney representing Maldonado.
Ruben is a loving father and belongs with his family – especially as his daughter, Ofelia, battles stage four metastatic cancer. The separation of this family is inhumane and profoundly unjust. We are hopeful he will be returning home pending an immigration bond hearing in the coming days.”

Maldonado was detained at a Home Depot in Niles while his daughter was on a temporary break from cancer treatment at Lurie Children’s Hospital. His attorneys argued that keeping him separated from his wife, daughter and four-year old son while his deportation case works its way through the system presented a severe hardship on his family.

Torres and his wife Sandibell Hidalgo are parents of not only Ofelia, but also a 4-year-old son, Nathan. The father, a 40-year-old painter and home renovator, is the primary breadwinner in a household with carefully balanced child care responsibilities in their Portage Park bungalow. The mother often sleeps at the hospital while he takes care of their preschooler.

Good morning, friends.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court halted a California ruling that sought to stop ICE from using race, color, or language in immigration arrests. Let’s be clear: racial profiling is wrong. It violates both our values and our rights.

But this decision is part of a larger story. The Supreme Court has a long history of denying people their inalienable rights before finally correcting itself. Inalienable rights are basic human rights that no government can take away — life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Our government once declared Black Americans could not be citizens. It upheld segregation. It said Latinos couldn’t serve on juries. Time and again, rights were denied. But over time, people stood up, spoke out, and change happened. On average, it takes the Court fifty years to overturn itself. That means the work we do right now matters.

At the heart of this is one question: do we believe everyone deserves equal protection under the law? We at Dady Law Group do. And we will keep working, speaking, and standing up for it — alongside so many others who believe the same.

Courage is not the absence of fear; it’s knowing something else matters more. Protecting our democracy and defending our neighbors matters more.

In this time of heightened ICE activity — and reports of people impersonating law enforcement — we must be vigilant. If you see someone armed, in a vest, refusing to identify themselves, do not assume they’re law enforcement. Call the police. Protect your community.

Today, we encourage you to show up for your neighbors. Eat at a local Mexican restaurant. Shop at Forest City Plaza. Smile at someone you don’t know. Pay attention. Step in if you see someone mistreated. Call for help if something doesn’t look right.

We are stronger together. And we will keep standing up, speaking out, and defending the dignity and rights of all people.

Have a good day, and let’s look out for one another.
