Hernandez’s current practice encompasses a concentration on Federal Civil Rights actions, including, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, and Constitutional violations, in addition to criminal defense both state and federal. Hernandez has tried hundreds of hearings and over 35 jury trials, including the successful pro
secution of civil rights cases against both government and private businesses. His appellate practice has led to the establishment of new federal and state case law. Hernandez earned his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois College of Law in 1990. He is a member of the College of Law’s Alumni Council and a former elected member of the Northern Illinois University Alumni Executive Board as Vice-President. He has been a guest lecturer for Northern Illinois University’s College of Law. He received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Major in Political Science and a Minor in English in 1987. In addition, Mr. Hernandez has been Of Counsel to Fioretti & Des Jardins, Fioretti, Des Jardins & Reda, and Coston, Fioretti and Lictman doing their trial work from 1998 to 2004. Hernandez has been recently hired by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office as a Special Assistant State’s Attorney to defend Winnebago County from federal suits. Hernandez has served in the United States Army with 82nd Airborne Division and overseas in Panama. He attained the rank of Sgt. and earned his Jumpmaster status. Professionally, he is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Winnebago County Bar Association, Boone County Bar Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, and Hispanic Lawyers of Illinois Association. Hernandez is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois, the Federal Court’s of Wisconsin, Illinois and Texas, in addition to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He has served as a Board Member of the Community Action Agencies (CAA) for Winnebago and Boone Counties. Hernandez was a volunteer attorney for ALERTA, a Hispanic organization for Boone County seeking advancement of the Hispanic Community. He has also served as a volunteer attorney for “Mujeres Adelante”, a Hispanic organization of Winnebago County seeking the advancement of Hispanic Women in the political and business community. Hernandez was hired by the City of Chicago to represent the seven Hispanic Alderman in the 2000 redistricting of Chicago’s Ward boundaries. The redistricting results were historic with creation of five new majority Hispanic Wards, increasing the number of majority Hispanic Wards from seven to twelve.
