Incidents like this underscore the harsh reality of prison work: officers are outnumbered, often under-supported, and face constant threats of violence. Their jobs demand courage, restraint, and split-second decision-making in dangerous environments.
As a community, we must recognize that correction officers are not the problem—they are public servants working in one of the most challenging environments imaginable. When incidents occur, they must be viewed in the context of the daily dangers and impossible conditions these officers face.
It is time the public conversation shifts to acknowledge the risks COs endure to keep facilities safe, and to ensure they receive the support and understanding they deserve.
A 31-year-old inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility attacked a female officer last week, attempting to grope her inside one of the facility's dorms. The incide
