Rochester Elder Law

Rochester Elder Law Zatkowsky moved to Rochester, NY from his hometown of Brooklyn. Miles' sincere compassion for his clients is apparent.

As experienced guides through the confusing maze of elder law in the Rochester, New York area, we strive to lift the burden of fear and worry from our clients’ shoulders. In 1986, after working in the Second Judicial Department for the Justices of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York (one of the busiest appellate courts in the nation), attorney Miles P. Shortly ther

eafter, Miles found himself assisting in the care-giving of his elderly parents, and decided to move them to Rochester from Brooklyn to better look after their needs. In doing so, he soon realized his passion to help older adults and decided to focus his practice on Elder Law. Today, his finely-tuned elder law practice provides clients in the Rochester area with the deep compassion and experience he brings to the otherwise complex areas of Medicaid Planning and Asset Protection, Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, Special Needs Planning and Guardianships for incapacitated individuals. He says they often show their appreciation with hugs, which is not something most lawyers get to experience. For this reason, Miles finds his work to be deeply rewarding. He strives to be a source of relief for every client, no matter the level of burden they carry when they come through his door. Miles' clients often leave a meeting with him feeling at ease, their fears alleviated, so they can turn their focus and attention on their loved ones, confident their legal matters are in good hands.

The federal agency that operates Medicare, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is finally recognizing what people have known for, well, thousands of years: Family members are the bedrock of the system of care for frail older adults and younger people with disabilities. And the agency is taking some important steps to help them.

More than 55 million people worldwide are living with dementia and that’s expected to double every 20 years.

How we care for our loved ones with cognitive decline is critical. The New Reality gained access to Canada’s first dementia village in Langley, British Columbia and spoke with the founder of the world’s first dementia village in The Netherlands.

As Farah Nasser reports, this type of person-centered care allows people with dementia to live their lives as they deserve to – with freedom and dignity.

Federal law requires all states to have “estate recovery programs,” which seek reimbursements for spending under Medicaid. States have leeway to decide whom to bill and what type of assets to target. Some states collect very little. Others aggressively seek repayment.
