If infidelity played a role in the breakdown of your marriage, your feelings are valid.
But when it comes to the divorce itself, California is generally a no-fault divorce state.
What does that mean?
It means the court isnât typically deciding who caused the marriage to end. Instead, it focuses on resolving the legal issues in the case, such as property division, spousal support, child support, and, when children are involved, whatâs in the childâs best interest.
That doesnât make what happened okay, and it doesnât minimize the pain that infidelity can cause. It simply means the divorce process is handled differently than many people expect.
Understanding how the process works can help you set realistic expectations as you move through your case.
