At this year's Advocates for Justice, ICLS is proud to recognize Latham & Watkins LLP as our 2026 Pro Bono Team of the Year for its unwavering commitment to advancing justice for LGBTQIA+ communities throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Since partnering with ICLS’s Gender Marker & Name Change Clinic in 2024, Latham has become one of our strongest and most trusted pro bono partners, playing a pivotal role in the development and expansion of our efforts on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ communities.

For transgender and gender nonconforming clients, obtaining gender-congruent identity documents is more than a legal process; it is a profoundly affirming step toward living authentically. Latham’s volunteers approach every case with empathy and respect, ensuring that clients feel supported throughout what can often be a dysphoric and challenging journey.

Last week, we held our very first Funder's Breakfast at the IEHP Foundation's Innovation and Learning Center in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Assembling nonprofits and community-based organizations (CBOs) from across the of California, our discussions examined the challenges of an evolving funding landscape and the importance of resilience when navigating the current funder's ecosystem.

Earlier this month, ICLS and other housing advocates went through a mediation over a complaint against the Riverside City Council – for their denial of a $20.1 million grant for a supportive housing project.

That funding would have converted the Quality Inn on University Avenue into 114 permanent units for low-income and unhoused individuals. Filed by the ACLU of Southern California, the Inland Equity Community Land Trust, and Inland Empire Tenants Union, the complaint alleges the City’s actions violated California civil rights law by blocking critically needed affordable housing for some of Riverside’s most vulnerable residents.

With support from ICLS, the coalition highlighted a glaring lack of affordable housing in Riverside, which has issued permits for only 4% of the low- and very low-income housing required under its Regional Housing Needs Assessment. We are excited to honor the MicroEnterprise Collaborative of Inland Southern California as our 2026 Community Partner of the Year – for their impact on our Small Business and Nonprofit Program and their commitment to entrepreneurs in Inland Southern California.

From ideation to implementation, MicroEnterprise supports small business owners and connects them with the resources they need to thrive. Soon after ICLS launched our Small Business and Nonprofit Program in 2021, MicroEnterprise became one of our most important partners in reaching small business owners and providing free legal resources.

By connecting ICLS with small business clients, our pro bono attorneys were able to offer guidance and one-on-one support in the areas of trademark protection, contract review, employment law, and so much more. While many small business owners cannot afford legal guidance in the early stages of entrepreneurship, access to an attorney can prevent costly mistakes that threaten the livelihood of their businesses.

Last week, ICLS Executive Director Tessie Solorzano and other members of the ICLS team had the privilege of attending the Inland Empire Community Foundation's 2025 Policy & Philanthropy Summit: Common Ground for the Common Good.

With over 600 nonprofit directors, philanthropists, policymakers, and regional leaders in attendance at the Riverside Convention Center, the event focused on building just and resilient communities for all.

As the oldest and largest public charity serving the Inland region, IECF has been a champion for those most in need in our local communities for more than eight decades. By uniting essential resource providers, including nonprofits like ICLS, with key stakeholders across the region, IECF is working to ensure residents of the Inland Southern Region have the resources they need to thrive.

Last month, our Elder Law team joined fellow community partners in Moreno Valley for the Adult Protective Services and Social Workers resource fair. In collaboration with the APS and IHSS offices, ICLS was proud to provide local social workers with the educational materials and legal resources necessary to help them better serve of our seniors.

Events like these remind us that legal aid extends beyond the courtroom — it starts with showing up and connecting people with the help they deserve.
