Meta has agreed to settle claims brought by 29 State Attorneys General in the Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability MDL, in the midst of a federal bellwether trial in the U.S. Northern District of California in Oakland.

Founding Partner Christopher Seeger serves as Counsel to the Co-Lead Counsel and Settlement Counsel in the MDL for the school district and personal injury plaintiffs.

The State AGs alleged that Meta violated state consumer protection laws and the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act by designing Facebook and Instagram to be addictive to young users and collecting children's personal data without parental consent.

Former SpineFrontier CFO Aditya Humad has been sentenced to four months in prison, one year of supervised release, and a $9,500 fine for his role in a kickback scheme uncovered through a whistleblower lawsuit brought by two clients represented by Seeger Weiss founding partner Stephen A. Weiss and counsel Justin M. Smigelsky.

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani handed down the sentence on August 6, 2026, following Humad's May 2026 guilty plea to conspiracy to violate the federal Anti-Kickback Statute.
Seeger Weiss has now been involved in five separate qui tam matters that resulted in criminal pleas or convictions.
