I'm glad to see that there is some public attention on a key same-sex marriage rights case that I am arguing in front of the Supreme Court of Ohio this winter.

I am happy to see that an important civil rights case that I am arguing in front of the Supreme Court of Ohio this winter is finally starting to get some media attention. Ohio's top court will decide what level of parental rights to afford same-sex couples who were prevented by this state's former (unconstitutional) same-sex marriage ban at the time their kids were born.

Before same-sex marriage was legalized, Ohio allowed only one of the two partners to be considered the child's "parent," since having two moms or two dads would have gone against the same-sex marriage ban. I am arguing this winter that Ohio should recognize both partners as parents moving forward, rather than the child simply having one "parent" and one "nonparent."

The Ohio chapter of a national social worker’s group jumped in on a case that asks the Ohio Supreme Court to look at the state’s parentage laws from the perspective of same-sex couples.
