Make sure you have comprehensive coverage. This covers damages to your vehicle if you're at fault for the accident. It's especially important if you're still paying off your vehicle. Additionally, this coverage will cover repairs for things like backing into a pole, door dents, and other non-accident related damages to your vehicle.

Car insurance tip: add Med-Pay coverage to your policy. This will help pay for medical bills incurred in an accident, regardless of fault. We recommend adding at least $5,000 of Med-Pay insurance.

Consider purchasing underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage. This type of coverage is not mandatory, but it's advisable as it will cover your damages if you're in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver. We recommend purchasing between $25,000 and $100,000 of underinsured motorist coverage.

Let's talk about liability coverage. Nevada requires that automobile liability insurance policies carry a minimum coverage of $25,000 for bodily injury or death of one person in any one car accident; $50,000 for bodily injury or death of two or more persons on any one car accident; and $20,000 for injury to or destruction of property of others in any one car accident. However, this may not be enough to cover you in the event of a serious accident. We recommend increasing your liability coverage to cover yourself and your assets. That may be at least $100,000 to better protect yourself and your personal assets.
