Candy Dance weekend is here. Historic Genoa will welcome more than 400 arts, crafts, activity and food vendors September 26 and 27.

Faire admission is free. Public parking is $10, and free shuttles run between the lots and the faire from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Genoa’s town entrance will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

There’s more to every team member than what fits in a job title, so we’re sharing a little more about the people behind the Garrett Stewart Real Estate Group.

Meet Garrett Stewart, Realtor and Team Owner.

After 12 years in real estate, Garrett’s favorite part of the business is the long game. He has helped clients purchase their first homes, then worked with them years later to sell and move into their next ones. Along the way, he has watched families grow, gotten to know their loved ones, and built relationships that extend well beyond closing day.

Outside of real estate, Garrett enjoys weekend getaways, with Europe high on his travel list. He’s also a sucker for a great view, whether it’s one of the viewpoints around Northern Nevada or dinner overlooking the water and mountains at Sparks Water Bar.

One thing people are often surprised to learn? Before real estate, Garrett owned a chocolate business.

Did higher mortgage rates cause you to pause your home search?

You may be overlooking one important change: some buyers have stepped back, certain homes are sitting longer, and some sellers may now be more open to reasonable negotiations.

That could include the price, closing costs, a rate buydown, or repairs.

This doesn’t mean every home is a deal or that every seller will accept a low offer. The key is knowing which listings may offer real negotiating room.

Here’s what many Reno and Sparks buyers may be overlooking: rates have gone up, but buyers may also have more negotiating power than they did a few months ago.

Some homes are sitting longer. Buyer activity has slowed. And with the holidays approaching, certain sellers may be more open to negotiating the price, closing costs, a rate buydown, or repairs.

That doesn’t mean every home is a deal. The key is finding the right listing and the right seller.

Reno residents can now reserve one of five tree varieties for just $40 through ReLEAF Reno. Quantities are limited and available first-come, first-served.

Choose from California incense cedar, Chitalpa Pink Dawn, Village Green zelkova, Bosc pear, or Prairifire crabapple.

Early pickup runs October 13–16 from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main pickup event is October 17 from 9–11 a.m. at the Idlewild Park Maintenance Office, 2055 Idlewild Drive.

Recent Reno-area wildfires are raising an important question for homeowners and buyers: Can the property stay insured?

KUNR reports that more than 2,700 Nevada policies were canceled or not renewed because of wildfire risk in 2024. Among 59 people who self-reported Hawk Fire damage, 13 said they did not have home insurance.

Before buying or renewing, confirm three things in writing: whether the policy will renew, whether wildfire is covered, and what deductible and rebuilding limit would apply.

For buyers, start the insurance conversation early. Availability and cost can affect financing and whether a transaction can close.

The Great Reno Balloon Race runs September 10–13 with free admission at Rancho San Rafael. Virginia City’s Camel & Ostrich Races return September 11–13, the Reno Greek Festival brings food, music and dancing to Saint Anthony’s on September 11–12, and the Reno Aces finish their 2026 home schedule with six games against Sacramento.

The Great Reno Balloon Race returns September 10–13! 🎈

If you’re planning to go, save this guide before you head out. Gates open at 3:30 a.m., followed by Super Glow at 5:00, Dawn Patrol at 5:30 and Mass Ascension at 7:00.

Admission is free, but event parking is cash only: $10 Thursday and $25 Friday through Sunday. You can also use designated UNR parking or ride the RAPID Virginia Line free from 4–10 a.m.
