A low appraisal doesn't necessarily mean the deal is over.
Depending on the situation, the buyer and seller may be able to renegotiate the purchase price, the buyer may choose to bring additional funds to closing, or there may be other options depending on the loan and terms of the contract.
The important thing is to understand your options before assuming the transaction has fallen apart.

Homebuyer Tip: Check the Seller’s Mortgage

Found a home you really like? Before you make an offer, it may be worth asking whether the seller’s existing mortgage is assumable.

If it’s an FHA loan, a qualified buyer may be able to assume the existing mortgage—and potentially keep the seller’s lower interest rate. That could make a meaningful difference in your monthly payment.

Of course, not every FHA loan can simply be transferred, so be sure to have the loan servicer confirm the requirements and whether the assumption is possible.
