Attorney At Law

40+years of experience, with aggressive, personalized representation

My services include defending people in court who were in the wrong place, at the wrong time, in the company of the wrong people, all of whom were drinking alcohol or using drugs. I am technically retired unless a case involves an unusual set of circumstances that would be unique…there isn’t anything I have not defended in 41 years of practice.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY?

Obviously, anyone can advertise and make themselves out to be someone they are not qualified to be.

If you are shopping for a criminal defense lawyer, to help you with your case, the first thing to ask is:

“HOW MANY JURY TRIALS HAVE YOU TRIED TO VERDICT AS A DEFENSE ATTORNEY?”

Many attorneys who previously worked as an attorney for the Government for years have never even tried a jury trial to Verdict as a DEFENSE attorney!

Criminal Defense is an art, not just a job. Buyer beware.

I would be happy to hear the facts of your case and give you 3 names of reputable, skilled and experienced lawyers that fit your situation.

No! Really I’m done! Remember? I’m not thinking about law. It was fun and rewarding but no, I will not take your case… well maybe I will.

CULTIVATING POOR RELATIONSHIPS ?

I saw a post complaining that the ma*****na black market illegal growers are going to “hell in a hand basket” or was it “going to pot”? Illegal growers are taking a different type of “hit” these days. Market income dilution happens over time with legalization of any industry like gambling or alcohol. Remember prohibition from the 1920’s? No, I didn’t think so!

Experience when and where it matters.

While I am not taking cases, I would be happy to refer you to 3 competent attorneys to choose from for trucking death or injury, felony or misdemeanor criminal case defense, DMV issues and suspensions or traffic cases.

FUN FACT:
Over 40 years, and every month, about 5 days after a full moon, I usually started getting an increase in potential criminal clients that had been involved in something that happened during the full moon. It never failed to happen. 🌚🌝

Someone recently asked me what type of cases I handled during my career. It came down to this:

Defending people in court who were in the wrong place, at the wrong time, all in the company of the wrong people, all of whom were drinking alcohol or using drugs.

Well, everybody gets a turn with bad luck and fortunately mine took many years to show Its ugly face.

Apparently, I was “blessed” with a degenerative spine that became asymptomatic in September 2020. I had back surgery to fuse my L-5/S-1 level on January 19th and further damaged it after a minor fall at home. I have healed well despite the fall and I came back home in April after 3 months in hospitals regaining my strength and staying clear of Covid.

That being said, I’m proud to say that my 41 years of practicing law was a great fulfillment that included being a Shasta County Deputy District Attorney, a Shasta County Judge Pro Tempore and criminal defense attorney in both State and Federal Courts.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with innumerable characters, scofflaws, bullsh*tters, as well as many erudite judges and attorneys whose creativity, humor and knowledge has known no bounds. (Thank you Frank O’Connor, Steve Carlton, Joe Gazzigli, Dave Brady, Judge Bill Davis, and my good friend David Dratman).

I have met, worked with and admired hundreds of individuals involved in national and international legal issues that have opened my mind to the needs of the world.

There has been nothing better than loving what I do, but moreso, helping others in the process. It never gets old seeing a client’s fear melt away and the gratefulness that accompanies it with a job well done. I believe that I have made a difference in the world, as we all should, and I have never regretted being kind under any circumstances.

My wonderful wife Elaine continues to make life as sweet as it is and has sacrificed so much taking care of me during this medically difficult time. We are looking forward to one of many future trips including the South Pacific and spending more time at our place in Costa Rica.

My absence shouldn’t be seen as dropping out, disappearing or “quitting”. I would hate to see any of my experience go to waste and welcome anyone to help keep the cobwebs off of my library or my mind. I’m so happy to start this new transition in life both together and apart from all of you.

I am forever receiving requests for referrals to other attorneys and am more than happy to do so. If you are interested in me referring you, please provide me with a list of your areas of practice and contact information to forward to prospective clients.

Again, thank you for helping make my life what it has happily been for such a long, successful and productive time.

I started my 41 st year of practicing law yesterday and it’s It’s been quite an interesting journey.

There isn’t much I haven’t seen over that period of time, but has given me the experience necessary to recognize and address almost any legal issue that comes my way.

I’m selectively taking clients on a case-by-case basis, but if I can’t help you, I can certainly get you to counsel that can address your needs.

I have developed a deep and wide network of attorneys nationwide whether it involves any injury caused by a trucking or automobile accident, a product defect, medical malpractice or any other type of liability.

Of course, while I have practiced many areas of law, criminal defense, DMV issues and expungement of criminal records remain my favorite means of helping others.

If I can help, give me a call at (530) 241-1800.
