Duke and I had a great first weekend with the RedHawk Nation father/son camping trip at Camp Pendleton..

What we learned most, it's not all in our hands, and we gotta adapt. The weather had us change locations for 200+ dads day of then cut the weekend short, but you know what... wouldn't change a thing.

Core memories unlocked and ready for the next one.. thanks to the veteran dads and Mighty Wolves who showed us the ropes..

Today, you are FIVE.

You do not know it yet, but you came into our lives during the hardest chapter of my life. My dad, Grandpa Kevin, had recently passed away when you were born.

While still picking up those pieces that completely gutted me, you changed my life. You were and continue to be the spot that fills that void for my dad.

While I can never bring him back, I see him in you everyday, son.

It hasn't been pertect thus far, but those that know, I am putting in the work to the best human I can be for you, Beau and mom.

Duke, your energy and love of baseball, ice cream, and all things dinosaurs get me up in the morning. Your desire to learn and be curious are truly fun to watch and I know Grandpa Kevin is watching over you, my son.

Summer of fun..

As the kids return to school this week and next, I can't help but reflect on the magnitude of memories we chalked up this summer.

From road trips, to bachelor parties, baseball under the stars, to mid day s'mores, it almost feels like we sprinkled in a little bit of everything.

Rather than waiting to see this home over the weekend, we pushed to get in on day zero.. and we were able to beat 4 other offers, some higher than ours.
