Estate planning now available - ask me about it📝
Anne Heche left no will, and now her 23-year-old son is trying to settle millions in debt...
After actress Anne Heche died in August 2022 following a car crash in Los Angeles, her eldest son Homer Laffoon was appointed as the permanent administrator of her estate. The 53-year-old star of Six Days Seven Nights and Donnie Brasco had no will in place, leaving her family to navigate a complicated and emotionally painful process.
In an April 2024 court filing, Homer reported that the estate was insolvent. The biggest claims came from the crash itself. The owner of the home Heche drove into filed a $2 million claim, the tenant who lost her belongings filed another for $2 million, and a third $2 million claim was also submitted. Even Heche's ex, Thomas Jane, filed a claim for about $149,000. According to court documents, the estate consisted of a modest bank account, residual income from past projects, royalties from her memoir Call Me Anne, and some personal property. Homer reported total identified assets of roughly $200,000 as of early 2025.
By March 2025, Homer was working to sell his mother's remaining assets to try to settle approximately $4.1 million in outstanding claims. He told the court he was cautiously optimistic the claims could be resolved without going to trial.
A young man in his early twenties sorting through his mother's debts while grieving her loss. It's a reminder that estate planning isn't just for the wealthy. It's for anyone who loves someone.
