Cash in your safe loses value to inflation. But when the power and the phone lines go down, it might be the only thing that actually works. 💵

During the floods in Western North Carolina, credit cards were useless. No electricity, no telecom, no transactions. The families with cash on hand were the ones who could still buy gas and groceries.

$1,000–$10,000, tucked away for true emergencies only. Not a splurge fund.

4 in 10 Gen Xers have no retirement savings at all.

Of the remaining 60%, the median retirement savings is $100,000.

No reasonable estimate puts $100,000 or less anywhere near sufficient for retirement, particularly given ongoing uncertainty around the long-term sufficiency of Social Security.

In this clip from Asset Protection Today, we unpack what these numbers mean for Gen X and why the retirement savings gap is a bigger risk than most people realize.

What if a $50,000 investment today could hand your grandchild $120,000+ a year, tax-free, decades from now without ever touching a dime of taxable income?

In this clip, Bill Alexander breaks down how a properly structured life insurance policy can grow into millions in cash value, let your heirs borrow against it tax-free, and still leave a death benefit behind for the next generation. No income tax. No estate tax. Fully asset protected.

Want your kid on track to be a millionaire before they even get their first paycheck?

Here's a strategy most parents have never heard of: open a 530A account, also known as a "Trump Account", after your child is born, contribute $5,000/year for 18 years, and you've built up $90,000 growing completely tax-deferred the whole time.

When your kid turns 18, that account converts into a full retirement account. They're not starting from zero. They're starting decades ahead.

Estate planning attorney Bill Alexander breaks down exactly how this works (and why timing matters so much) on this episode of Asset Protection Today.

Medicaid planning should be done long before a nursing home bill arrives.

Transfers, deeds, trusts, income, and account ownership may affect eligibility. A plan for higher-value assets may also need to account for taxes, family control, and care preferences.

If you haven't planned ahead, don't fret. Call to learn more about your options: 919-256-7000.

A major shift in financial planning for families has arrived with the introduction of 530A Accounts, frequently referred to as "Trump Accounts". Launched on July 4th, 2026, this new tool offers a fresh mechanism for building tax-deferred wealth for children.

Any U.S. citizen under the age of 18 with a Social Security number is eligible to have one of these accounts established. Perhaps most notably, there is a $1,000 seed money incentive provided by the government, specifically for children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028.

For those looking to take advantage of this opportunity, the process involves completing IRS Form 4547. It is a significant development for parents and guardians focusing on long-term financial security for the next generation.

Small things can still slip through the cracks in an established estate plan.

An old beneficiary form may override a will.
A deed may send property somewhere the trust never reaches.
A care agreement may affect Medicaid or VA benefit planning.

Asset Protection Today discusses how North Carolina families can review documents together before those mismatches create confusion.

Listen Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon on iHeart Talk Radio 106.1 FM.
