If you are involved in a North Carolina lawsuit, do not assume your AI conversations are automatically private or protected.

AI conversations can create electronic records. Whether a particular conversation could be requested or used in a legal proceeding depends on the circumstances, including what was said, why the conversation took place, whether the information is relevant, and whether a legal privilege or other protection applies.

Bottom line: Before sharing sensitive information with an AI tool, ask yourself whether you would be comfortable seeing that information in a courtroom.

If you are dealing with a legal matter in North Carolina and are unsure about what information you should share with an AI tool, talk to an attorney first.

Today we're celebrating Emily as she wraps up her summer internship at Vasilko & Pedersen! 🎉

Emily has been a wonderful addition to our team this summer. Her enthusiasm, professionalism, and eagerness to learn made a lasting impact, and she was always willing to lend a hand wherever she was needed.

Behind on Child Support? Your Passport Could Be at Risk.

Did you know that unpaid child support can affect more than your finances?

Federal law has long allowed the U.S. Department of State to deny or revoke passports for individuals with significant child support arrears. Recent enforcement efforts have increased the use of this tool to encourage compliance with child support obligations.

NEW POLICY: Trump administration revokes over 6,000 passports from parents who owe $50,000 or more in unpaid child support.

Since the initiative launched in May, noncustodial parents have paid nearly $1.5 million in past-due support — with some making single payments exceeding $100,000 to get their passports back.

The State Department is now revoking roughly 1,000 passports per week, and officials say the threshold will be lowered.

We are excited to welcome Miranda Dues to our team!

Miranda focuses her practice on family law and has been serving clients across North Carolina since 2019. Her background includes criminal defense and, most recently, representing survivors of domestic violence with Legal Aid of North Carolina. She is a compassionate advocate dedicated to guiding clients through difficult legal matters with skill and empathy.

A North Carolina native, Miranda earned her Juris Doctor from Campbell Law School and later completed her LL.M. at Nottingham Trent University. Outside the office, she enjoys hiking with her husband, volunteering at a local animal shelter, spending time with her four cats, and all things Tolkien.

We're thrilled to have Miranda on our team and look forward to the knowledge, compassion, and dedication she will bring to our clients and community.
