NC Board Certified Specialist in Family Law A Raleigh native, Jaime Humphries Davis joined Gailor Hunt Jenkins Davis & Taylor PLLC in 2001.

Jaime is a Board Certified Family Law Specialist and was named a Super Lawyers’ Rising Star in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Jaime formerly served as Chair of the Wake County Bar Association’s Poverty Issues Committee. She currently serves as an attorney volunteer for the UNC-CH Community Legal Project, and she is an active member of the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. Jaime’s practice incorporates all areas

of family law, with a concentration in complex equitable distribution and child custody matters, including relocation and interstate cases. Jaime also focuses on family law contracts, including Premarital, Postnuptial, and Separation and Property Settlement Agreements. Jaime is a member of our appellate advocacy group, and she is a Certified Parenting Coordinator. Jaime received both a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in political science and English, and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As an undergraduate, Jaime received the James M. Johnston and Hugh Morson Memorial scholarships. While in law school, Jaime studied family law extensively, taking numerous classes regarding complex domestic cases. Jaime also worked as a research assistant for Professor Buckner F. Melton, Jr., and was acknowledged in his 2002 publication, “Aaron Burr: Conspiracy to Treason.” Jaime clerked for Clayton, Myrick, McClanahan & Coulter in Durham and Teague, Campbell, Dennis & Gorham in Raleigh. Jaime’s background in domestic law and research enables the firm to stay on the cutting edge of developments in family law. She is a member of the Wake County and North Carolina Associations and has served as co-chair of the YLD Bar Exam Committee and as a member of the YLD Domestic Violence and Newsletter committees.

Back to school season is a great time for a co-parenting reset.

Kids pick up on more than we realize, including tension between households. Here are a few things that can really make a big difference in your child's school year:

-Present school news and decisions as a team, even from two homes
-Loop each other in on teacher conferences, big assignments, or concerns early on
-Communicate directly with your co-parent instead of putting kids in the middle of logistics
-Celebrate the wins together, because things like a good grade or big moment deserve both parents cheering (even separately)

Kids don't need perfect co-parents. They need parents who are on the same team, even when they're living in different homes.

If you're starting to date again (or maybe just think about it) following your divorce, remember that milestone is its own kind of first day of school.

It comes with new routines, potentially awkward meetings, a little nervous energy, and lots of self-discovery. It's a learning curve, and that's okay.

Go at your own pace. After all, there's no syllabus for this one!

Change isn't usually comfortable...but it often comes with growth.

Maybe you're entering a new season, a new routine, or a new chapter you didn't see coming. Transitions have a way of asking more of us than we might expect.

Just remember that if you're in the midst of one of those transitions (a.k.a. growth and learning opportunities) right now: You're doing better than you think. And you've got this.
