Kelly Thompson Family Law

Kelly Thompson Family Law Kelly Thompson is a family law attorney in Raleigh, North Carolina who serves as a trusted advisor for all matters related to divorce and custody.

In My Own Words:

Family law issues are by their very nature highly emotional and often contentious. Unfortunately, they also often include children which means that your relationship with the other parent is something that will be ongoing for years after the current issues are settled. If your family law case is handled in a way that increases the acrimony and disagreements between you and the o

ther parent, both you and your children will be negatively affected by that strained relationship for years to come. My approach to family law is a long term strategy that takes into account that future relationship while protecting and asserting your rights in the short term. I always prefer to settle a case amicably whether that is through mediation or private agreement. This saves you money, minimizes the stress on you and most often leads to a quicker resolution. Unfortunately, an amicable solution is not always possible, and in those cases, we are forced to file suit through the courts. In those cases, I continue to do my best to limit the costs to you and to keep the case moving forward as smoothly as possible. In short, if you are looking for an attorney who is commonly described as a “shark,” I am most likely not the attorney for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking for an attorney who will realistically assess your case and keep both your long term and short term goals in mind, then I may be the attorney for you. When one parent in a divorce has worked to prejudice the kids against the other parent, the last-ditch solution for some judges is to send the children to “reunification camp” with the mom or dad they can’t stand.
